Because of space travel, the Earth has been seen and photographed from space. Before that, some have thought erroneously, that no one really knew that the Earth was "round" or that it hung in space, unsupported by anything.
Now, because the Earth has been seen from outer space, we know that it is a bluish planet swirled about with white clouds. But really, there was someone who knew ALL ABOUT the Earth, long before man went into space.
In the book of Job, the Bible describes the Earth this way: "He (God) stretches out the northern sky over empty space, suspending the Earth upon nothing. Job 26:7
Approximately, those words were written way back in 1473 B.C.E.
And Isaiah wrote: "There is One (God) who dwells above the CIRCLE of the Earth. And it's inhabitants are like grasshoppers. He is stretching out the heavens like a fine gauze."
Astronomers agree that the Universe is like gauze. They agree with this description. The book of Isaiah was written around 732 B.C.E
Earth is the only planet known to support life and this is a result of it's unique placement in the solar system. Scientists say that Earth is 93 million miles away from the sun and at that distance, it receives just the right amount of heat to ensure one vital ingredient for life to exist on the Earth. And what is that? WATER.
It is a well-known fact that if the Earth were closer to the sun, it would be a dry hot landscape similar to Venus, the second planet from the sun. If the Earth were farther away, like Mars, the oceans and rivers would freeze.
Do you think that this is an accident that the Earth was placed in the exact right spot? The Bible explains again at Psalms 115:16 "As for the heavens, they belong to Jehovah, but the Earth, HE has given to the sons of men."
Isaiah 45:18 says: "The Creator of the heavens, the true God, the One who formed the Earth, it's Maker, who firmly established it. Who did not create it simply for nothing, but formed it to be inhabited..."
And Psalm 104 should be read in it's entirety...for it says many things about how and why God established the Earth. It says: "HE (God) has established the Earth on its foundations. It will not be moved from its place, forever and ever. You covered it with deep waters..."
If you read on through this chapter, it is very eye-opening. I hope you will read it all and understand why the Earth exists.

Well, the earth is where it is as a result of transformations of the universe millions of years ago. Now, knowing this and knowing that our sun is a star, there are billions of stars in this vast universe. So, we cannot be the only planet with life on it. There is, I am sure many planets just like ours. As a matter of fact, they already found many of them. Only we cannot study them close up. Maybe one day when we have the technology, we will be able to explore this wonderful universe. All planets are balls in the sky. Common sense has to delegate this. But there are many questions about the universe that need to be answered. And little by little they are. We just have to make sure man stays alive on this planet long enough to find out the truth behind the universe.

I'm satisfied with the answers from the Bible. And you are right, man has to stay alive, but humans are slowly but surely destroying the Earth.

@IreneVincent I agree. Man is his own enemy. And in addition to destroying this awesome planet, man is killing himself. We could very well wind up like the dinosaurs. But then again, the planet itself to self destruct. And that we have no control over.

@inertia4 It's very alarming when we consider what ALL is happening on the Earth right now, but as I said, I believe what the Bible says and that means that I believe that God is in control of what happens to the Earth. And the scriptures I quoted above in the article, says it all.
I know you are not a Bible reader and that you put a lot of stock in what scientists and astronomers have to say, but they are only humans like the rest of us and worse than that, they don't even agree with each other, as to when and how things have occurred in the past or will occur in the future. I would much rather believe in what the Bible, which has been around for centuries, says.
