I love salty snacks, but with a tendency for high blood pressure I need to avoid them. So, I was delighted to find out that unsalted pistachio nuts make a great snack for me.
The vitamin B6 in pistachios helps to produce GABA, an amino acid that regulates calming chemicals like dopamine, my herbalist told me. They also force out excess sodium which eases the stress on blood vessels, lowering blood pressure, she said. This was good news for me, so I just keep a couple bowls of pistachio nuts near me when I'm watching TV or when I'm on the computer. Since I have to peel them and eat them one at a time, I rarely overindulge, but they are delicious.
Do you like pistachio nuts?

They are sold at the grocery store nearest my house and I buy them all the time.

Yes, they are good for you. I don't eat a bushel of them, but for a quick snack, they make more sense than some other bad choices I could make and HAVE made in the past.

They are somewhat expensive but most nuts are. I think that's because of all the hype about Omega3 foods. And nut retailers took advantage of that and raised the prices.

I like all kinds of nuts too. Actually, my favorite nuts are Black Walnuts. I have to buy them from a Mennonite store, called the Cheese Shop near where my brother lives in the Shenandoah Valley. It's about 100 miles from me, so I ALWAYS go to the Cheese Shop when I visit my brother.
