Money is very important in our life.
Money buys us a house and love makes it into a home for all of us.
There is nothing like home ownership.
It is good when you claim a piece of land as your own, and the building as your house.
This can only happen when you have the money for it.
However, money cannot bring you the warmth that only a home can.
You need to make a house into a home. That means to allow children, pets and yourself the freedom to mess up a tidy place.
A pair of misplaced shoes tells you that you are living in a home, not a hotel.

I love the title! I was just explaining what the difference between a house and a home to my son when he saw the word "home". I like what you said about allowing the freedom to mess up a tidy place, I think I am really staying in a home, as my home is in such a big mess all the time.
Though I do want to keep my house as neat and tidy as possible, I'd like to give my children to freedom to play around in the house as well. There was once when my neighbor visited my house, she liked my messy home as she thinks it really looks like a home as hers looks more like a hotel (she's staying with her mother-in-law, so she has to keep the house as neat as possible). That was the first time I heard such compliment for a messy home.

@scheng1 It's a sad story, but good lesson for some people.
I have friends who kept complaining and "teaching" the young children that they have to pick up the toys after playing and keep the place clean and neat, some children ended up didn't want to play with toys anymore but sat there doing nothing or kept bugging the parents. So, the toys are just kept nicely in the box or store room, but kids are not doing much. I understand the importance of teaching the children to clean up, but it can be too demanding for very young children and they might lose the interest of playing anymore.
Of course, I wish my home can be cleaner and neater, but I really love to see my children playing happily at home.
They will eventually grow up, and I won't see this messy home anymore. So yes, we have to be grateful.
