Day 17 – Job Position 1 Chronicles 23 By the time we hit third grade our teachers are asking us what we want to be when we grow up. The answers are as varied as the number of different jobs available. Generally we keep that job in mind throughout our academic years. We look into what it takes to do that job and set our goals to achieving it. When Israel was in the wilderness, God set aside the tribe of Levi to do the work of the tabernacle. He gave each family a position in that work. Fast forward to the end of David’s reign and we see those positions being filled again. There were two groups of people – those thirty years old and older and those twenty years old and older. Those thirty and older did the work of the tabernacle – they were porters, judges, and officers. Those twenty and older waited on those thirty and older – they worked in the courts and chambers purifying the holy things for service in the house of God. They also sung praises to God morning and evening, as well as offering the burnt offerings. If I asked you what your job is, you could tell me a vast array of job titles. But if I asked you what your position is in God’s service, many of you wouldn’t be able to give an answer. The fact is we all have a position in God’s service. As Christians we are part of the body of Christ and we all have a position in the body. 1 Corinthians 12:27 Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular. 28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues. 29 Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Are all workers of miracles? 30 Have all the gifts of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? 31 But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet show I unto you a more excellent way. What gifts has God given you? That is your position in the body of Christ. No doubt it also lines up with the job position you worked for many years or the hobby you enjoyed all your life. God gave you your gifts and talents to work in His service and benefit the body of Christ, just as the job you perform daily benefits your employer. Let’s pray: Father, thank you for the gifts You gave me. Help me benefit the body of Christ with those gifts and talents. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
