in my state they just passed the law that if a cop sees you talking on the phone while driving he can pull you over and ticket you. I am very glad about this. So many times I have seen people on their phones not paying attention to the road and miss a stop sign or swerve. I walk to work and so I get to see quite a bit more than if I were driving, and it's scary some of the things you see people try to attempt when they are driving a vehicle.

That's terrible. They are against the law in the state I live in. My daughter still talks on hers as she drives and it makes me very angry. I hope she gets a ticket and I pray she doesn't ever hurt anyone else.

I know that some people feel like they are lost without their cell phone. My 12 year old daughter has been begging me for one and I have told her that it isn't a necessity in life to have one of those phones stuck to her ear. Her friends all have them, but I have made all the right arguments against it. In regards to this discussion, I must confess that I have used my cell while driving. I know it is dangerous and I know I should pull over to talk to the person the other end. People in general are not going to go along with any law prohibiting cell phone use by the driver. And, if a law was passed....how would it be upheld by law enforcement? It is a losing battle to try and change things like this when it has run rampant for so long. It is horrible that deaths have to occur because people cannot see that it inhibits their driving to the point of a crash. It's sad that this problem will no doubt be a problem for many years to come. My answer is NO they should not be legal.

No..driving requires both hands and full concentration on the road..if you need to talk. pull over.

We need to have speakers inside the car and drive without holding a phone or having to stop and put on a headset. This is my opinion. Anything that takes your attention from the road is dangerous. People have been killed from drivers changing CD's or radio stations too. Also, from chatting with someone in the front seat and not paying enough attention, even from kids in the backseat... so anything that distracts the driver is potential for disaster. Since cells have become a necessity for so many doing business and such I think having a system that works completely hand free and one that is voice activated makes the most sense. You'll still have accidents though. People can be distracted by the conversation itself. I'm very sorry for your loss.

I feel very low and depressed after hearing about such accidents. Talking on cell phones while driving should be banned completely and should be enforced strictly . Even at my place there is a fine of INR 500 ($10) , if one is found to talk while driving but i see that its not been imposed strictly, I feel this should be done striclty and people should be made aware of this hazardous activity

first, sorry for your loss Second, as much as I say it should not be, I don't think it would be smart or even possible. All that would happen is making criminals of people, I mean talking while driving is not a new concept, we have cops / ambulances with radios in there. It is a matter of the drive, but maybe hands free devices should be required
