Morocco: Have You Been There?

I have always been intrigued by Morocco. One of the most romantic books I ever read was set in Morocco, so I have this idea in my mind, that the men there are very handsome and the women are very beautiful. And they are, I think. On our trip to Spain, we went to the Rock of Gibraltar and when we were high up on the Rock, we could look across the Strait of Gibraltar and see the coast of Morocco, about 9 miles away. And we also flew over Morocco coming in for the final approach into the airport. A trip had been arranged for us to cross the Strait and visit Morocco and I was really looking forward to that, but... At that particular time, there was a warning given to us that Americans were not welcome there and they left it up to us, as to whether to go or not. My husband and my brother said "NO" so we did not go. Those from our group that did go, did not encounter any hostilities, so I have always regretted not going. Morocco had a long struggle for independence from France, but finally succeeded in 1956. The capital of Morocco is Rabat and the official language is Arabic. Some Berber dialects are also spoken. Maybe some day I will get to visit Morocco, but in the meantime, I have enjoyed reading more about this intriguing country and I can keep my romantic story to be remembered always. I still have the book. Have you ever been to Morocco? Do you live in Morocco?

I was in Morocco in about 1973! It was interesting to me, but I don't remember that much about what I saw.

Really? You will have to tell us all about it when you get back. I'm interested in hearing about your trip.

I would like to go there, but I don't suppose I ever will. I have been reading about Morocco and found some interesting history and other facts.
