I finally got a puppy. Not the one I originally thought I was going to get.. or even the 2nd one I thought I was going to get. But she's cute.. and unfortunately Younger than the other one I wanted. She likes to bite. she puts EVERYTHING in her mouth. She has NO FEAR. not of the other dogs or of the cats. She doesn't let us sleep more than a few (3 tops) hours at a time. Then you have to take her out, tire her out, feed her and take her out again before you can think about asking her to go to sleep - please just for a few more hours... My roommate and I are taking turns with her and we are both EXHAUSTED. and we are only on day 3! This little girl is Vala- she came to me in CT via a rescue in TN. She is only 9 weeks old and they say she was found as a stray.. I wish I knew how some little puppy not old enough to be away from it's mother was found all by herself... but we are trying to teach her the manners she didn't learn because momma and siblings weren't around to put her in her place when she plays rough... :)

If that is her in the photo she looks so sweet. I found that when we had a new puppy if you wrap a hot water bottle (the rubber kind) in a blanket that will simulate the warmth that she would get from her mother or litter mates. Put it in her sleeping area and it will comfort her.

Yes that is her in the pic. Thanks for the idea. I just wish she would sleep longer than 3 hours. I am seriously TIRED now and trying to work 3rd shift. :)

She is precious! Congratulations on your new, four legged family member! I know this is a tough time for you and your roommate. My husband and I are going through the same thing as our miniature dachshund had puppies (intentionally) in October. We still have 3 left and they "sleep" in our room. I feel your pain!

Yes. I hear you..I had one litter once and vowed never to do that again.. it was the most sleep deprived few months I ever had. .. That was 8 and a half years ago and somehow I forgot how bad it was and here I am again.. and one is probably worse than a litter. because The Human is the object of their play, biting and all their attention. I cant wait for my other dogs to warm up to her enough to start playing with her and keep her occupied and in line.

@minx267 The bigger issue than sleep deprivation for me is the heart wrenching that happens when they go to their new home...it wasn't too bad for the first two. But the longer they are here with us, the harder it gets. My favorite boy is going to his new home today. My daughter and I are SO SAD. It's like a family member moving away!

What a little cutie. Do you know what she is? Some kind of terrier, I'm thinking.

They think she is a German Shepherd Mix.. I think that is possible and I am thinking maybe Labrador and possibly Boxer in the mix. I think I will get one of those Doggie DNA kits thru Amazon and have her DNA tested to find out. Check out the size of these feet

We've just acquired a 2 year old rescue dog. He's incredibly well behaved but is seriously bouncy and energetic from about 4am. Not anywhere near as bad as what you're going through but I can sympathise. Stick at it. It will all be worth it.

Thanks.. We have 3 older dogs. and it is taking a bit for them to get used to her and deciding if they like her or not. I am sure her energy and playfulness will win them over.. but right now. to them- it's just annoying.

@WorDazza That is what I am hoping. But gently..lol we also have 18 cats. and she really doesn't pay a heck of a lot of attention to them so that is great!

@minx267 We have two cats and that was a bit of a strain when the dog first arrived. Fortunately the dog just ignores the cats, which suits them fine. The older dogs may help to put her in her place.
