Who are you going to choose? Parents or the person you want to marry?

This is actually being asked to one of the weddings I have attended. The priest even said that if you choose your parents then of course we should stop this wedding now. I forgot the explanation of the priest from the bible verse regarding choosing parents between the person you marry. Although in reality sometimes a partner has to choose for some reason, especially if both parties are not in good terms such as parents of the partner and the partner.

In my religion, a man should choose his parents but for woman should choose her partner. Because a man should responsible to his parent. But when the parents let him ti choose between them, it is a different condition.

I can't get that, meaning to say what if the woman chooses the partner? She is going to live with her partner and his family? Or with in laws?

@Metatronik It depends on the situation, if it is possible, she will live with her partner in their own home or live with her in laws. It is the common tradition in my country.

Maybe he asked the question because it came up when he had talked to them before they got married.

Not really, it was part of his homily. I hope I can be able to watch the video and listen to the explanation again.
