Traveling in South Africa is an adventure regardless where you land and where you drive. The country does not have very smooth public transport so the best way to see it, would be renting a vehicle and driving as much as you can. The place to see and where to go are spread all over the country and could take you up to 6 months to see it all, but for us, we have 10 days in which to show S the NewYorker why we love it so, and why he should come back for a second visit. "Kruger National Park, in northeastern South Africa, is one of Africa’s largest game reserves. Its high density of wild animals includes the Big 5: lions, leopards, rhinos, elephants and buffalo's. Hundreds of other mammals make their home here, as do diverse bird species such as vultures, eagles and storks. Mountains, bush plains and tropical forests are all part of the landscape." Today you don't have to leave your home for this adventure - I have put together a slide show for your enjoyment and a clear taste of South African Hospitality. From various visits to the Kruger National Park as well as the Famous Timbavati Private reserve that borders it - Please take note that no Rhinoceros photos included as South Africans have taken an oath not to divulge the whereabouts of any Rhino spotted to protect them from alien poaches. BUT take my word, there are many to be seen! enjoy . . .

The only time that I have seen most of those animals would be in zoos, whereas I expect that I would be rather ill at ease to encounter one in the wild.

I understand hunting to keep populations down (like with deer) and to eat, I do not understand hunting for a horn or sport, or an endangered animal.
