Maui: A Trip To Paradise?

There are only 12 letters in the Hawaiian alphabet, but they are used to describe the beauty of Hawaii, especially the tropical paradise island of Maui. Hawaii is located far out in the Pacific Ocean, thousands of miles from almost anywhere. I've been there twice. Maui is one of the islands with 120 miles of gorgeous beaches. It's the second largest of the Hawaiian chain and the locals say "Maui no ka oi." "Maui is the best. Do you agree? You can choose to dance beneath the stars or go to the summit of Haleakala, a 10,023 foot dormant volcano. To see the sunrise from here is spectacular, beyond belief. You can take hula lessons. I learned that it is not about the hips but all about the knees. Surfing lessons are available too and horseback riding on the beach. Paradise! Ride the Hana Highway, fifty-two miles of beautiful vistas of tropical flowers and waterfalls. But drive carefully, it can be very dangerous if you are not paying attention. It's been called "the world's most beautiful drive." Hawaii is well worth the long flight. Be prepared for an unimaginable visual paradise. Have you been to Hawaii?

Yes. I was stationed in Hawaii for 18 months. I never got off Oahu, which was a mistake on my part. I should have gone to the other islands, but I rarely had spare money thanks to the high cost of living there and my lowly E5 salary. But it is gorgeous. NO denying that!

I have a friend, whose husband is in the USAF and has just got his orders for a three-year tour of Oahu. She and her daughter are going with him and I'm going to miss them so much. I just hope they can travel safely and enjoy Hawaii while they are there. I know the cost of living is high there, so I hope they will be comfortable. He's an E7, I think.

@IreneVincent -- Hickam Air Force Base? I loved that base, spent more time on it than on Pearl (and I was stationed at Pearl!)! I hope they get to see the Arizona memorial. I worked just down the street from it, but I couldn't bring myself to go to it. It was just too emotional.

@FourWalls I believe it is Hickam. Yes, I told them some things to be sure to visit. I know the Arizona Memorial is there. I didn't visit it either when I was there. So sad. All those lives lost. Are you still military?
