I work in the offshore platform. It produces crude oil everyday. Then the crude oil is stored in the platform.A few days later the ship come to the paltform and transport the oil to the factory. This platform is based in the middle area of Bohai bay. I spend half of the year here and the other half of the year is totally free. Is it cool? Haha

I would think it would feel like a great holiday when off but a working man when not. I see from a map that the bay looks protected from the larger sea's. Your boat has legs so I suppose your feet don't get wet. yes cool. Can you see Tanggu from where you are?

It's totally different feeling when I work and not. The different feeling between working and rest is like that between winning a 100 million prize in a lottery and lost 100 million. Actually I am in the middle of the bay so nothing we can see except some fishing boats and ships. But I live in Tanggu and my company is in Tanggu. (It's amazing that you know "Tanggu". Haha it's a small area belongs to Tianjin)

@ChinaLeon Not amazing I just looked on a map to see where the bay was. First I had to find China. It was not hard to find. But I can't see Tanggu from my window either. I've only experienced shift work where it seemed every evening, weekend and holiday was working. It then felt like home only with work. My days off were Monday and Tuesday but no one wants to party on Monday. Everyone else seemed to be grumpy on Monday.

I think you can make use of the time to learn a specific skill onboard. Perhaps you can learn to repair the engines of the rig. It is a skill that is in high demand, and you get to work a few days at a time at the rate of nearly USD1000 a day.

Yeah! Thanks for your advise! Maybe I should have a try. But nowadays the oil price is very low so the international market is collapsing and every company consider to lay off their employee. But actually the ablity of designing and constructing a offshore platform of Singapore is the best in the world as far as I know. I will consider to work in Singapore. I know it's difficult.

@ChinaLeon The money is not good. I think when the maintenance guys or the experts come to repair the engines of the rigs, you can watch how they do, and you can make excuses to help them in the work. In this way, you can pick up the skills.

That does sound like a cool job. Many oil workers are being laid off in Alberta too.

@ChinaLeon yes, but all the big companies are cutting back due to the price of oil. That means all the supporting industries slow down too. So lots of people losing their jobs in Alberta.

@paigea Yeah. The winter has come and the spring will not far behind. This oil crisis is due to many factors! But I think the most important one is the new energy impact. The furture of the world belongs to the new energy.

Unfortunatelly, the crude oil price was very low a long time. So the oil company have to lay off many worikers to reduce the cost. But I think Cannda would be the next important oil market because of plenty of oil sands.
