Credit card promotions

Perhaps the only real benefit of having a credit card is the frequent promotions offered by the credit card companies. When you have saved up for ages to have a good meal in a restaurant, and the restaurant runs a 15% discount for the holders of a certain credit card, that is a bonus for you if you happen to have the credit card. This will save you money if you have the intention to spend. If you do not have the intention of eating there, there is no point in having such a promotion. That is why even though credit card promotions are great, I seldom make use of them. I just do not want to spend the money in anything that I have not budgeted for. I still prefer to save up the money before I spend on anything. Even if the credit card promotions give a great promotion of buy 1 get 1 free, I will still not take the bait. A dollar spent is gone forever.

I like using credit card. I prefer to pay for anything with a credit card. Here different banks will have different promotion for their credit card. Such as you can use fewer money to go to see a movie. Or you can buy one get one for Starbucks. And you have some discounts for the restaurants. And the banks will give you some points according to your consumings. And you can use the points to exchange some gifts from the banks and this is so nice.

@scheng1 Yes, we prefer the cash back feature as well. We also use one credit card now, which can be recognized when we go overseas, so we think it's enough.

@scheng1 I have several credit cards. As some are good to use when I am abroad. And some are convenient to pay online.

I use only one credit card. I can go without those freebies or promotions. The only thing I want is the cash back. Once I have enough points, I will redeem for cash instead of vouchers.

Yes, sometimes they have 1+1 for restaurant meals too. When we go out to have a meal with a group of friends, we will ask the restaurants which credit card will get us the best deal. The person with the credit card will pay, and all of us will pay him our share of the meal.

We spend only when necessary, so we always ignore those promotions if we don't need them. But, we like to use credit card as much as we can, as it's more convenient, so we don't need to bring so much cash or withdraw cash from the bank often, and we just pay off the bill monthly.

@scheng1 I think the children will always learn from the parents, that's why it's good for the parents to set good examples. I can see my children are learning much from us, how we talk and act, how we spend money, how we save the resources, etc. We also told them why we are using credit card, and they also see how we use them.

That is very prudent management, especially when you have kids. I think it is time you teach your children about credit card management. It is never too early for that.

Hi, I have never used credit card and even there were bank companies who encouraged us to apply for a credit card, I still did not apply for myself. However, when I start to travel and started to book for flights, I have realized the benefit of having a credit card. Since I do not have it yet, my boyfriend was the one who booked for our ticket using his credit card. Just yesterday, I applied in one of the banks in my country and I am hoping to have my credit card by next year. I found out I will also be needing it for paying my tourist visa online. If only I could have all transaction on cash basis, I would but there are some transactions that do not give me any other option but just to use a credit card.

It is good to have credit card when you make online booking. If you have any dispute, at least you have the statement to refer to. I give you a safety tip for usage of credit card. After you have your credit card, you must set a notification to send to your email and cell phone. That means every time when you have a transaction, you will receive the sms in your cellphone. Even if the payment is just a dollar, you must set it so that you get the notification. This is to prevent anyone from using the credit card without your knowledge.

I rarely use my credit card, just for big items and then I pay it right away. I never pay one cent of interest.

I don't have a credit card for the same reason although I'm eligible. I tend to spend by seeing discount or Buy1 Get1 offers. Still Domnios BOGO is irresistible and I take the plunge everytime. :D

In this case, you better not have a credit card. A credit card is good when you have a good saving habit, and you spend only when you have budgeted for it.

Once your dollar has left your pocket, try to get it back there and you will find this pretty impossible.
