It is that time of year again. I sometimes wonder how old that man in the red coat is. I still believe in Santa Claus but have never had the chance to meet him. It is an interesting myth though. Can you imagine going riding around in a sleigh in the sky pulled by flying reindeer? Well it would be interesting for sure. Anyway it is a magical time especially for children. However let’s not forget the real reason we celebrate Christmas. What ever our beliefs are it is Jesus birthday and that is an important part of Christmas. I know that I love those Christmas movies which show people celebrating and singing carols with nothing about them. No tree, tinsel or presents. That means that Christmas is in their hearts. It is a holiday which has become so commercialized that there are people out there in the world who have come to believe that it is just a holiday like any other. I do like to see holiday decorations and love the twinkling lights. I love houses decorated and lovely store windows. That is the good part of Christmas. It makes me sad here in Riga, Latvia to see a gray sky, gray streets and hardly any decorations. Being from New York City I can tell you that Christmas was everywhere and in every neighborhood. Having said all of this I believe that it is possible to combine the real meaning of Christmas and the celebrating. It is a time to tell all our friends and family how much we love them. It is a time for special Christmas dinners and happy times by the Christmas tree. So let’s remember the important things and let’s not go overboard at Christmas and instead spread the warmth, love, and happiness.
