A cigarette without a match is like a bottle of wine without a ?

Corkscrew! I stopped drinking 35 years ago, not even a sip of wine or beer. My husband drinks beer, nothing else. I stumbled across a recipe for Filet Mignon that calls for red wine to be used in the sauce. Of course it has a full color photo of the finished product and it looked so good. I had to get a bottle of red wine. We stopped at the liquor store in the next county and it was like stepping back in time, except I had no clue where anything was. I asked for the red wine and was ushered to the correct aisle. I bought a small bottle, nothing fancy and we figured we were set for Filet Mignon for New Year's Eve dinner. Wrong. Yesterday my husband was rummaging in the kitchen drawers and I asked what he was looking for. He said, a corkscrew. Hum, did we ever have one? Now we have to buy a corkscrew to open one bottle of wine. I should have gotten a twist cap! Photo: pixabay.com/en/wine-bottle-alcohol-beverage-186018/

It would rather depend whether you are going to use the whole bottle at one time or save some for later. The most efficient way would be to push the cork inside the bottle, but you would be able to seal it again without another cork.

I won't be using it again, it will probably just get poured out.

That's the reason why i keep several Victorinox Swiss knives, you'll never know when a certain type of small tool would be needed, I keep one in my pocket, another in my everyday carry (EDC) and one in the drawer cause things could get very frustrating at times, anyway good luck on your cooking

My husband has your basic pocket knife, no gadgets on it.

Yes, a corkscrew is one of those essential tools for the kitchen.
