If you find an item you had purchased for cheaper, do you get a price adjustment?

If you had bought an item previously and saw that same item now cheaper and it's within the policy (typically varies depending store but averagely 2 weeks or less) - Do you bring your item in for a price adjustment? I always see this policy, but I have never price adjusted anything (besides price match). But, my first time price adjusting was last week at Victoria's Secret. I purchased at Pajama 3 piece set for my sister as a Christmas Gift and paid retail price of $54.50. A few days later, I received an e-mail from Victoria's Secret saying the same exact Pajama set will be only $39.50! Of course, since I was going to the mall anyway (to buy more Christmas gifts) - I mind as well get back $15+ tax (price adjustment difference) right? But the sales associate was giving me a hard time. When I approached her, I was very nice and explained my situation. I had just bought this pajama set a few days ago (wasn't even a week yet) and now the price is $39.50.. I would like to do a price adjustment. Her response: Normally we cannot do this for you, but I will just this one time. Which absolutely made no sense since they have a price adjustment policy. I even told her, it'd be the exact same thing if I returned this pajama set (I had the receipt) and grab the same exact pajama set (or even better give me back the set) and I will re-purchase. I don't understand why some people act as if they own the store. Even if the deadline for price adjustment was over (2 weeks), the receipt is good for 30 days, so I could have just returned the set, get my money back and buy a new set. But my receipt was not even a week old. Regardless, that was my rant and I got my $15+ tax difference back in the end. Questions: 1. If you find an item you had purchased for cheaper, do you get a price adjustment? 2. When you went in for your price adjustment, did the cashier/sales rep give you a hard time?

I rarely make price adjustments because I don't happen to come across paying retail often (usually only during the holidays when nothings on sale and I don't have a choice). It made no sense because I could have just simply returned the item and re-purchase without hearing "We can't do this and I'll do this for you this time only" as if I am doing something wrong.

I think they are trained to make the customer feels special. Not every customer is aware of all the policies. I think the store is very stupid to have such a great discount from the original price. If the discounted price is just $5 off the normal price, I do not think you bother to ask for a price adjustment.

Yeah, because gas would be much more than $5 to get to the mall. But, since I was already going to the mall, I mind as well get $15+ tax back, total of $16.20! But the customer service I received was horrible.

It is funny how things like this are different in different cultures. In Canada and the USA if an item has an incorrect price tag on it the shops honour the cheaper price, so much so that we have received a 2 for the price of 1 deal days after it has closed. In the UK, which is where the source of US and Canadian law the fact that the display price was wrong is your tough luck. That said if I am looking in multiple stores for a deal I simply cannot abode those stores that say we can beat any quote you have had by 5%. I want a price that I can rely upon so I will pay a higher price at a store that doesn't take part in confusing competition. My philosophy is put your price on display and stand by it. Generally speaking if the shop offers a deal you should go after it and be aggressive in pursuing the deal.

In the United States it's common! Many stores offer it in their receipt policy. Maybe England might have this policy too??
