Have you been misjudged your age by strangers?

China

One morning several days ago, I was walking on my way to my working place, when a young lady called me "Uncle!" from behind. The word she used in Chinese did not only mean "uncle" but usually refer to men of over 50 even 60 years old. When she called me "Uncle", it indicated that I was older than her father in Chinese tradition. And this young lady was about 20-years-old. I think her misjudging was mainly because I've got gray hair like many senior people though I'm still in my mid-30s. When I turned around and she saw my face, I think she might have already realized her mistake. Then she asked me the way to some place. I said I didn't know, not that I was angry, but that I really didn't know the place. Have you ever been misjudged your age by any strangers? If so, what's your reaction?

I am often mistaken for a kid, because I am only 4ft. 7in. tall. I usually just laugh it off and tell them I'm actually 22, almost 23.

@Syllogism It used to aggravate me when I was younger and always got picked on for being so short. Growing older, it doesn't bother me as much. I can't do anything about being short, so why worry about it.

Here people know a new way to address others. When we see females, we will address "pretty girl" and the males as "pretty boy". So everybody will feel happy to it Perhaps this trend will go to your side slowly.

@Syllogism Try to relax it, do you know that sometimes very old people will also address the youngs as "sister" and "brother"? It is like a nick

Yeah, it has. But you know, sometimes young people would call senior people "uncle" or "aunt" to show their respect, and that's just what I experienced.

People always used to think I am much younger, perhaps I am quite short and have a younger look. Now that I am a mother, hence I am very used to be called "aunt". When I was young, I didn't really like people misjudging my age as they might think I was a little girl, and not so capable of doing things. Now, I do not really care anymore. I always tell, I am older than you think, and tell my exact age.

@Syllogism I have met two female co-workers who refused to disclose their age, and actually I really do not understand why. I am always fine to tell others about my age.

Here most girls over 20 are not willing to tell their real ages. They either tell you that's a secret or tell you a smaller number.

Because of my mustache and beard, sometimes i mistakenly judged as the older brother of my older sister. Physical appearance do really have a factor. But when it comes to mind, I can say that I'm more mature perhaps

Kids and teenagers usually like themselves look more mature than their age. And, Hmm, your picture(if that's really you) does look older than your age.

All the times. Most people would think I'm 18 when I'm actually 28.

@syllogism Well, I'm sure you must have been a bit put off by this 20 year old girl. No, I haven't been faced with a similar situation. In fact, some have thought me to be a bit younger than my actual age. So like any other woman, I am pleased.
