What about the new directX 10? Are the new 8800 series better than the old?

Nvidia is the first to lounch a grafics chipset compatible with the upcomeing directX10: The 8800GTX and the 8800GTS. Do you thinc they'll do a better job at rendering games than the curent 7XXX series?
And what of ATI? WHat will they bring to the table? They have more experience on unified shaders but what,s keeping them?
