The day started with news of the death of rock legend Lemmy of Hawkwind and Motorhead fame. It ended with news of the death of another music genius, John Bradbury, drummer of The Specials and their splinter incarnation, The Specials AKA.
I went to Manchester city centre this morning, to buy myself a new mobile phone. I hate such purchases normally as I am not very technically minded and only wanted a cheap basic pay as you go phone for calls and texts.
Normally shop staff try to oblige on me to upgrade to more expensive tech, but today the seller was happy just to sell me what I asked for without pressing for a bigger deal. It was some of the nicest most straight forward customer service ever.
I also used some of my Christmas gift book tokens, treating myself to a very good one volume hardback edition of Isaac Asimov’s famous Foundation trilogy of science fiction novels.
I was torn between adding a video of Motorhead or The Specials. I settled on the latter, and their creepy anti-Thatcher anthem about city centre club closures in the age of Thatcher fuelled high unemployment, Ghost Town.

Hurray for new words to read. Sadness for music lovers ... I didn't realise Lemmy was seventy. :(
