As you said its the national festival of india and adding it to more, its as important and famous as diwali festival. In north india , especially in punjab state its known as the "LOHRI" festival, celebrated on 13th of january. On this day, kite flying is most common allover punjab. Its the most important festival of winter season. Peanuts, rewari are the common dry fruit which is served on this day amongst people. On this day, in evening woods are put on fire to celebrate "LOHRI".
