Have you ever heard quotes or sayings that leave you thinking...wait, what? There are hundreds of them out there. I thought I would put some on a post to give you a giggle or even a laugh. So, here goes... *A stitch in time saves nine. Nine what? *Can a stupid person be a smart-ass? *The Scarecrow got a brain, Tin Man got a heart, Lion got courage, Dorothy got home, what did Toto get? Poor Toto. *Today my doctor told me to start killing people. Well, not in those words. I think he said to reduce the stress in my life. Same thing! Yes, well, Hmmm. *Don't fear the enemy that attacks you, but the fake friend that hugs you. Actually, this one is true but it does make you think. What is your favorite.

Your first example make sense to me..if you fix something right away you need one stitch - if you wait the repair needs more than one. And I know lots of stupid people who are smart-assed!

@AbbyGreenhill it is a common sense proverb. You would be surprised to hear how many times people look at you with a blank stare on their face when you quote it.

How about good old Ben, early to bed early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise!! Not so much!!

@BelleStarr it may make him healthier, maybe not. But certainly won't make him wealthy or wise. I do like that quote though.

Most of these I've never heard! One of my favorites is: Measure twice, cut once. How do you see that one?

@HazySue That's how I took it too. I heard it from a carpenter when I was cutting boards for a friend's house, so he mean it literally, but it could apply "metaphorically" to many situations.

@TheHorse I like that one. To me it says if you check your work you won't have to do it again.

"That dog won't hunt" in response to something that sounds implausible was always one of my favorites. It makes zero sense to me, and yet for some reason, it just seems to fit.

@HazySue Sounds like a hunting saying to me. In the old days having a good hunting dog meant better nutrition

@mawhite does it mean that it won't work? Is it a southern saying?

Saves nine stitches. Think of all the hems that have been undone because of one stitch.

Wash down as far as possible, wash up as possible and then wash possible. (heard this often from different sources growing up on instructions on how to take a so called spit bath.

@HazySue A friend told that when young he had to fight a man, who then swore revenge and started looking for him. My friend got lodgings in the same house and kept an eye on his foe, who never did find out who he had been fighting!

@fishtiger58 I agree I want my enemies far, far away. But, I do understand the logic of having them close by. It's easier to watch what they are doing.

Make hay while the sun shines. It basically means make use of the opportunity. I mean there are a lot of alternate easy examples to understand this one.Like, why not, dry your clothes while the sun shines or something like that?

@Scindhia I like that quote. I need to make a back stitch of it and hang it on my wall.
