Although many new working people are starting to work in the society each and everyday, it is also true for the people who start to join the retired population everyday. Many people always dream for early retirement while they were only 20 years old. I knew some people who worked for the government could retired only when they were just 45 years old. Besides a good retirement benefit from the government, they would have their own free time starting from their retirement day. Sometimes, I wonder what would these people do when they don't have to work anymore. Would some people feel that they are useless once they are retired ? How would people enjoy a meaningless retirement if they have no plan at all ? There are many people they will do some volunteer work and I think it is a good idea since they still have contribution to the society. I think the worst retired people are those who still has ability to do many things but they prefer not to do anything at all. If someone who just spend all their retirement on fishing, walk around in the shopping mall, look at the sea, travel around the world or do things like that all day until they can't move anymore. I think these type of people are really wasting their retirement while they can still offer many things to this world such as write a book, train up the next generation to do something for the future, or even take care of children are some good retirement activities that need to be encouraged. The Bible gave us a good example to all aging people . His name is Moses and God called him and started to use him when he was 80 years old when he was just a sherperd and an old man with nothing. It is never too late to be used by God and do something according to God's plan. The myth of being old means useless, enjoy life for few more years and just wait to die is not true at all but many people prefer this type of belief and living style, so that's quite a sad thing to see in the society. If you are old but still have the ability to move , to talk or to write and you are willing to use by God. Then nothing is impossible. Since Jesus can turn the water into wine , that means God can do anything by using you if you are willing to be used by God. And....... Moses was a great example for you.

Some people like myself have waited all their working life to be able to do what you call wasting their lives, I don't think it's a bad thing at all. I am well aware God called Moses when he was 80 years old. I do not believe seeing the world, and spending time doing what you longed to do while you were wasting your life away in a factory or call center or other place where you just gave your time away to an employer that didn't appreciate the work you did is a bad thing. I worked all my life and got kicked in the teeth by my employer. Yes, I can move and do other things, and I am, but I also enjoy being on my own time instead of someone else's for a change. And one day I hope to waste my time seeing the world God created. He put this earth here for us to enjoy, not work our entire life to the bone and not enjoy what He created. Sorry, but this just got me. I don't want to be made to feel guilty because I'm retired. I don't mean any offense.

No, That's nothing wrong of retirement and enjoy life and seeing what God has created in this world. don't get me wrong. I know that many people did really spent their whole life to work and their retirement should be respect. My point being that if anyone who can still be used by God even when they got old or retire while they have the health and ability to do so. Why not let God to accomplish His bid plan in your life? God always has great er plan for anyone of us if we are willing to seek His face.We should be always on fire for God and His kingdom.Let the fire of the holy Spirit light up our life in a new way, then our heart will never grow old. I don't think God wanted everyone to be like Moses since everyone is unique in God's plan. being use by god in the retirement age doesn't mean you have to do big things as well. If people can care others and spend sometimes always pray for others or still have commission to share the gosple to others. I think this is something that will please God as well. God always want us to develop an intimate relationship with Him whether we are retired or not. That's something everyone should do . Anyway, may God bless your retirement and you just enjoy your time then.

@wildlittlefan I do believe God is using me. I post my Daily Bible Studies, which being a world wide web puts that around the world to anyone who wants to read it. I'm also an author and being retired does give me more time to write. I just like doing things on my time not someone else's with no gratitude for all I've done in the work force.

extra income, extra time, time, money, retirement
mystery shoppers.. . Ah ha, it seems interesting and fun as well. I heard that you have to visit those shop and then end up write some report or answer some questions before you will get pay for that. sometimes you have to buy something from the shop as well. Anyway, it is not a bad idea to earn extra money while you retired if you enjoy to do so. I am not sure we have something like that in Hong Kong or not.

Sadly, I did not pick a decent profession. Nor was I smart enough or had the finances to attend a 4 year college so there is no retirement in my future unless we win the lottery. The only profession I know that you can retire early is construction (depending on company and union ect) and teaching... I do neither.

By the time you are old enough to retire you have usually learned already your worth as a human being does not depend on you having a job or depend on other peoples opinion of you. Retirement is not meaningless to those of us that are retired lol... A large percentage of the people on MyLot are of this happy band :D
