How Do You View Your Life

I read a wonderful post by Lori A Moore about the glass half empty/full and read there a concept I never even considered - the glass can be refilled. So I ask you how do you view your life? Is it refillable? I have been through many things in my life, a lot more than are mentioned in my three part story down memory lane. There were some good things that happened - more often with my grandparents and friends than with my parents. Most of you know the story of Peter Pan and his happy thoughts that made him fly. When it comes to refilling my life, I must do so with the happy thoughts, those things that made me laugh in life. Like the times I went roller skating with my good friend I had all the sleepovers with. I fell a lot, but I had even more fun. Or the time I went mini golfing with the church youth group, or the Saturday nights a few of us from church went to the nursing homes and sung for the residents. Those are my happy thoughts. Those are how I refill my glass. Yes, my home life wasn't a fun place for me. But I learned a lot from my childhood. I learned what not to do as a parent. I knew because I used the idea - how would I want to be treated. There was a time in my life when I told myself I would give my kids breakfast, dinner, and supper in bed. Of course that was a foolish idea. But it's what I wanted. I didn't want to lay forgotten when I was sick, but to have someone actually care. So I refill my glass with the good times spent with my grandparents - my dad's parents. Grandma was wonderful. Her house always smelled like well Grandma's house. You know the smell. She never once raised her voice, she always had a word of encouragement on her tongue, and we went places together, or rather with her church youth group. I went along when they went to the Milwaukee Zoo. It was a fantastic day. I went along when they went to visit another church where my Godfather preached - he was a minister. We spent the night in the school gym, though I and another girl found an empty classroom because there weren't any lights to keep us awake, and then went to church the next morning. Those are my happy thoughts. Those are what I refill my glass with. They're the one's that kept me sane through the insanity of my home life. So how do you view your life? Is it refillable? Thanks for reading.

I am in the process of getting ready to go where I get my glass refill and it already filling where I have been low thinking about it as I dress.

Your church has a service tonight? Wonderful! Most church activities are canceled on holidays.

@just4him It is my regular Friday night Home fellowship meeting and there was a lot of prayer going up that the leader would be back in town in time.

My life is always full not always happy, but always complete. I guess it is being refilled with happy times in the present and what will be in the future. All the happy times of my past make me look forward to the future with hope.

Yes! That is a great attitude and I agree that we should always view our lives as refillable. Great suggestion!

I am an optimist, so I view my glass as always half-full, and it is also bottomless. . I smile when I have good fortunes, but I don't frown when I don't have that.

A bottomless glass is refillable and I hope you keep the optimism going that everything will work out exactly as it should, for your good.

I really don't feel much about life anymore, I feel I have lived my usefulness in this world and I am ready to close my eyes for good. But I will still keep on keeping on as they say.

Yes mine is also refillable. I want to fill it with all good things,, good memories, good services to people around, good fellowship with good friends and most of all good services to my God and my church.

Mine is bottomless cause situations can try to empty my glass but it can't be emptied as I am full of hope and determined to go on.

You have a lot of good memories. I never knew my grandparents when I was young because we lived overseas and we stayed their going from country to country. Which was a good and fun life. But I never knew my grandparents until I was sixteen and I did not know my aunts and uncles and cousins until than.

It is my grandparents and friends who gave me good memories as I realized when I started writing this post. I'm sorry you missed out on knowing your grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins until your later teens. I hope you have fond memories of them now.

I too had never thought about refilling my glass, but rather like the idea. I like to have positive thoughts, even when the going is rough, and there have been plenty of those times. Ys, I definitely refill, or maybe it could be called refuel, on positive thoughts.

Being positive is a great way to keep the glass refilled/refueled.

that is a much easier concept, half full, half empty, whatever, go refill it!

An excellent way to think about things @just4him (refilling). If we were to just dwell on our past, then there would be no future, change or learning.
