Last Day in Chicago

I'm leaving for home in the morning after spending the New Year's prolonged weekend on a concert jaunt in Chicago. I actually arrived Wednesday night -- a good thing, considering how heavy traffic was. I don't doubt that the interstates will be clogged on the journey home, and the normal five-hour drive will probably take seven or eight. Still, it was more than worth it. I've seen two great concerts and get to see a third one tonight. I'm hoping to come back to Chicago for a show at the end of the month, but everything between now and March is dependent on one thing: the weather. I broke my ankle here last year after snow fell on top of some ice that hadn't been cleared. I don't want to run the risk of that happening again. I have a back-up plan if I can't get to the concert I want to see here. Off to a nice Mexican restaurant for lunch, then my concert tonight!

I live in the Chicago area all my life. Born and bred. What concerts did you see. And yes the traffic will be bad tomorrow but maybe not as bad as a weekday.

I saw Robbie Fulks at Fitzgerald's Thurdsay (seeing him again tonight), and the Hoyle Brothers last night at the Empty Bottle. I'm not worried so much about Chicago traffic as I am the traffic on the interstates on the way home. Three hundred miles can seem like three thousand when the traffic's bad.

That sounds like a good way to end the holidays. If there is one thing that I am dreading come Monday when work starts again, that will be the heavy traffic. I will have to wake up and be on the road a little earlier than usual just to make sure that I will also have enough time for school stops and pedestrians. Oh and also paperwork, I am pretty sure that I have a stack waiting for me as well.
