What do you think about this experience my friend had?

He was on the way to his exam at the college on a bus. He got a window seat near the entrance door. He got busy with his studies there. A girl got a seat next to him after sometime on the way. Later a lady got on the bus. There were no other seats left for her. As his seat was near the door, she was standing near him and the other girl. She asked HIM to give a seat for her as she is so tired! Bear in mind that he was sitting at the window seat studying with his text in his hands! At the same time the other girl was doing absolutely nothing. But he just gave her the seat without any objection. I couldnt get the logic of the lady for asking him who was sitting a bit far from her, busy with studying, to give her a seat while she could have asked the girl who was just sitting there doing nothing. What do you feel about this?

That's the stereotype which a man has to bear, even though it is evident that he is doing an important work. The same thing happened to us. Once my boyfriend and I were waiting for an auto, and two other girls were in the line behind us. We both had large bags while returning from college, so it would have been difficult for us to sit in the front. An auto came and we sat in the back seats, but one of the girls asked my boyfriend to go to the front because they both wanted to sit behind safely, even though they had nothing in their hands. He retorted back saying that it was impossible and he physically couldn't manage himself like that, also pointing out that the girls weren't carrying anything. They then didn't reply anything. Sometimes we need to speak up against these people. Just because he's a guy so he's expected to comply under any circumstances, even if it could cause him harm.

The lady probably feels that a man should be manly and give his seat for her. Wasn't there any other seats on the bus for this particular lady to sit??

There were no seats left. How could have she asked one who is studying there with his books even if he so manly, while the girl was just sitting there doing nothing. She didnt even care to ask her!

@aju007 Yeah, I believe she is the old generation and believe men should give up their seat even though he was busy studying.

It is a difficult thing that give a proper answer for this. Your friend wants seat in that time, because he was busy at his studying. But sometimes that lady might be suffering from tired and she couldn't found any seat. So she ask for seat from your friend.

I have experienced this before when I was in colleage. I was back to school after my part-time job is over. I was so tired then. but an older lady stand beside me. So I have to give the sit to her. Moreover, she got off just the next station. and someone others took "my" sit. I was regret and thought that I may don't have to do that.

the guy mentioned in the above incident is none other but me :) i am his friend. this was indeed a bitter experience for me. coz it was the 2nd time in the same journey that i had to give away my seat. remember that it was an unreserved seat too. ladies nowadays first occupy the general seats and then leave the 'ladies seat' for other ladies making it difficult for men like us. these women empowerment thing is not going in the right track.

there was another experience. there is a seat reserved for ladies carrying infant in public buses in kerala. but is there a seat for the same purpose with a man in consideration? once in a busy bus a man with a little child boarded. there was a seat reserved for ladies with babies but there not a single seat for gents carrying babies. i didn't see any ladies who fight for ladies seat giving their seat for that father. only a man gave him a seat

I guess it must be a girl who expects (or demands, apparently) chivalry! Maybe I could understand it if it was an elderly or disabled person that could not stand on the bus. I take the bus and often I get annoyed that people don't stand up when elderly people come on the bus and have no place to sit. But this situation is different....that girl feels entitled!

This is the problem.. on one side we talk about equality on the other we show that females are weak, on one hand we worship goddess durga on the other hand we go for female infanticide.. this is just hypocrisy!
