Whenever I read posts or comments about childhood and reading, I always think about Enid Blyton, Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys.
In those days, we had to read at least 20 minutes before the start of lessons.
The teachers would force us to sit on the big hall, and read our selected books for 20 minutes.
It was not a long time to read. 20 minutes was too long only for those naughty boys who could not sit still.
Can you imagine having spent so many years reading in the big hall?
My selected books mainly consisted of books by Enid Blyton, Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys. These are the books readily available in the school library.

Over here, the national libraries and school libraries are very well stocked up even when we were young.
Many of us had to go to the school library as part of our lessons, and we would read or borrow books.
I think with the enforced reading every morning, there is no way we can escape from books.

I used to love those, and The Secret Seven as well.
