I wonder how a President´s private life is in other countries.

Today I went to my sister´s birthday party at my brother´s house, 2 houses away from mine. It was a small gettogether, with just the close family from both sides.
I went with my youngest daughter and her children.
The only person that did not belong to the family by blood (although she is the mother of one of my nieces) was the President of my country. She is very nice and she came alone because Sofia, her daughter, was ill in bed.
As we all munched delicious sandwichs that my sister in law had made and champagne I thought idly how did the private life of the heads of the State are in other parts of the world.
My youngest grandchildren had fun at the pool and I yelled to them from time to time because although the invitation included swimming at the pool, only 2 male grownups dived in with the kids at the hour of the biggest heat.
I came back home earlier as my daughter had to leave and needed some things she had left at my house. Michelle (the president) told me please to tell the 2 cars that came with her to please wait another half hour. She was having too much fun.
When we read about other countries, we only know of the official things that presidents do. But, of course, they also have an everyday life. After all, being a President or a Prime Minister is just a job.
Anyway, it is not a job I´d like to have. That much I know for sure.

It IS different, I suppose. Yesterday, the President had 2 cars parked in front of my house instead of the usual one. That was all. In big countries, there´s a whole display of force and weapons.

@marguicha Only when they are doing something official. One of our former President was often visiting his family in my area, and there was only another car for security following him.

@topffer Here it is like that too. One of the cars there was the car she came in and the other was for security. Not that those people would secure anything if any of the bad guys wanted to do anything.

I have met a lot of people with what you would call "lofty positions". And I have dined with Nobel Prizes, artists and philosophers. THe ones I have met are nice and modest. They did not brag about their accomplishments. Of course politicians are diferent from artists, writers and scientists.

I have never been invited to a birthday party with a president
. It looks like your president enjoyed the party. I suspect that our president prefers other kind of parties. Since the 19th C we tend to give them nicknames, and this one got a nickname with a pun which is not PG-rated

The actual President we have is a normal middle class socialist woman. Many years ago, she fell in love with one of my closest cousins and they have a daughter that is past her teens now. They remain good friends and all of them were very close to my mother as she was my cousin´s only family.

@topffer Of course everyone knows. They were a couple for several years. It´s not the same as if it had been just a romance of a few days or weeks.
And my niece bears his father´s (my cousin) last name.

@marguicha I was asking myself how you managed to have your president for a birthday party. I think that if I was inviting mine for a birthday party, he would not come
. Nice story. Does the population knows who is the father, or is it a kind of state secret like it has been during a long time for the daughter of our late president Mitterrand ?

impressive that you have such contact with your president and that she was able to make time to attend a family birthday event, and I would certainly not want such a huge position of social responsibility myself

Presidents are people as we all are. And, I guess, sometimes they are quite alone. So many people get near them to ask something of them instead of just having a bit of fun and conversation.
