What Exactly Does It's Just His Way Mean?

I really hate it when someone behaves like a total moron, bully boy or petty crook and his / her friends defend them for it with lines like 'he's alright really - it's just his way'. I can almost see Hitler's pals excusing his megalomania and extreme xenophobia with a similar 'he's alright when you get to know him' attitude. If someone's way is being intimidating, showing other people around, and having a bunch of cronies who step back and allow him to get on with it, that someone is no friend of mine and possibly not his cronies either. Someone who is pleasant and helpful to ten people but mean to one or two is not a good person, and the people he is friends with are often closet bullies themselves, possibly relieved that he pushes someone else round and not them. If a friend of mine needlessly distresses other friends he loses my respect too - it might be his 'way' but his 'way' is not acceptable to me - maybe that's just my own way. Arthur Chappell
