Are You Deaf
As a kid there were a number of words that earned me a one way trip to the bathroom and a bar of soap in my mouth. We refer to those words as four letter words because they are four letter words. Words I couldn't say started with C, S, D. It doesn't take much imagination to know what words those are.
However, today the words coming out of people's mouths are a lot worse than those words which probably wouldn't cause a problem with the language filter on myLot. Those words also are four letter words and are used so much that I don't think people even know they're saying them. Not only do they come out of the ordinary person's mouth, they are heard on television and in the movies.
It seems that Hollywood was given the license for vulgarity when Rhett Butler used that four letter word at the end of Gone With the Wind.
I hear words starting with F all the time, as well as D and H. Then there are the words that aren't vulgar but if used incorrectly carry an even greater punishment than the ones eluded to here and that is JC and GD.
When using the one it better be in connection with your devotions and Bible studies. If using even part of the other it better be in reference to well known dams around the world such as Hoover Dam. Any other use of the word does carry a penalty far worse than a bar of soap.
People have even begun to initial OMG which is also something we shouldn't say as it also carries the same penalty as JC does. H doesn't carry any penalties with it other than a bar of soap, and should only be used in correct context.
The penalty I refer to that is worse than a bar of soap is found in the Ten Commandments.
Exodus 20:7 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain. (KJV)
Another word, not a four letter word that is quite common and falls into the same category that comes with a bar of soap, starts with B. Now if used in proper context it is not a bad word, however to constantly call someone a female dog is in the vulgar realm.
Then there are the anatomical terms people call one another that is also gross and vulgar.
So how deaf are you? Do you hear those words people say or does it not even register?
Something to think about. Thanks for reading.

This reminds me of a time when I deserved the bar of soap as a child. I was about 9 and heard an adult say the F word. It was the first time I had heard it (true, but that is another story) So I eagerly went home to my mom and repeated the word. I can still see the look of horror on her face to this day as she explained to me that it was a bad word. Pleased to say those words were never uttered again

I don't think kids today even know what soap tastes like. It's amazing what it takes not to say those words ever again.

So it doesn't bother you or you don't hear it to notice it?

I hear them all the time and i really wonder as well. I am on my late 20's and still no matter how those years seem small we were brought in a way it was not allowed to say them. The world of today is really loosing it

@just4him Very true. One even feel ashamed watching these stuff with some family members. This is why most of them don't qualify as good for family watch

I wonder if I'll be told off. Yes it is. Sadly my children and grandchildren use that word all the time and think nothing of it. I've tried unsuccessfully to ask them not to say such words in my hearing. I gave up asking. They really don't hear what they say.

I hear the words it saddens me that people think it is necessary to use this form of language to express their view, but what saddens me even most is how those who say they are Christian but take the LORD's name in vain by their actions more so than their words by living a life opposite to the nature of GOD. You might not hear those words come out of their mouth, but actions speak louder than words.
