Persons on MyLot who live in other countries may be interested in learning more about the tribal people who live here in the United States. It's a long and sometimes very SAD story and I, for one, have done a lot of research about the American tribes. I will try to share some of the things with you over the next few months.
I have also done some research on the aboriginal people of Australia and would like to learn more about them. So, for those of you who live in Australia, I would enjoy hearing from you also.
I was able to visit the Lakota Sioux Reservation in South Dakota a few years ago and since then I have been extremely interested in learning more about all the various tribes and there are many different tribal descendants, here in the U.S. Their history is fascinating to me, but I also wonder how much of what we read in history books is factual, so I have spent many hours reading and learning what I can.
We also have reservations here in Virginia that I have visited, so I can write about those tribal people also. The very ground on which my house sits was probably walked upon by Pocahontas. I live in Matoaca, which was her real name.
I hope you will enjoy reading some of the posts as I attempt to share with you what I have learned.

I love the Native Americans. My Irish Granny RIP always had a great interest in the Native culture as well. She gave me a love of it. I will be happy to read what you have found out and researched. I do not know much but what I do know I find fascinating. Such a beautiful people.

I will begin writing about the American tribes tomorrow when I have more time. I have a presentation I'm working on today for a meeting this evening, so I need to concentrate on that. Thanks for your interest though. I think you will enjoy what I hope to share.

@TiarasOceanView I appreciate the encouragement. The presentation went OK. I did have a problem with the microphone though. It made me lose my train of thought for a few seconds, but I recovered and continued. Several people complimented me on my presentation after the meeting, so I guess it was better than I thought.

Thanks for sharing this! I didn't know that Pocahontas' real name was Matoaca. Where did Pocahontas come from then?

If you go to Wikipedia and type in Matoaca, Virginia, it will tell you that the Indian princess' name was Matoaka and Pocahontas was her "nickname." My grandson goes to Matoaca High School which is also there on Wikipedia. This high school is almost directly across the road from our house. My grandson walks home from school when its warm. I've been picking him up on cold days.

Yes, I had the privilege to visit some native Americans on the Lakota Sioux Reservation in South Dakota several years ago and I have done a lot of research since then, which I hope to share here on MyLot. Their history is sad and yet they have proved to be triumphant in many ways.
