Mystery Shopping Experiences?

NOTE: This is not a place for your referral links! (I don’t think Mystery Shopping companies even do referral bonuses anyways). I have had a good experience with this U.S.-based one, that essentially will either pay you or simply reimburse you for shopping or dining at particular businesses, and then filling out a long “audit” or form afterwards about the service and quality and different aspects of the experience. I have done a total of 3 so far – all in dining establishments. I actually didn’t MAKE any money, but I got reimbursed for what I spent – so essentially got a free meal. This one is called Secret Shopper. I’ve gotten paid twice for this so far, waiting on my third payment. I’m wondering if you have any experience with any mystery shopping companies. (NO REFERRAL LINKS!) and which ones they are. Like I said, most that I have heard of offer no incentive for referring people – so that shouldn’t be an issue.

Some of them do offer referral bonuses. Some companies have referrals available all the time, while others only offer them when they're really desperate to get somebody in the area to perform a shop for them. I've done a few different shops, but the ones I like best have been grocery. The reimbursement is decent, the reports are extremely easy, and I can get whatever I need at the time while I'm doing them. Oh, and auto service. I got reimbursed for every oil change we got last year.

Are you in the U.S? If so I'd be interested in the company you use!

I work occasionally for 3 companies in the UK. The restaurant ones are fine as long as the food is good

Cool. I enjoy the restaurant ones as well - I enjoy eating free food - like you said, as long as it's good! (I haven't had a bad experience....YET!)

@maezee I could have done one local pub restaurant , but it's online reviews were so bad that I did not want to make a guest and myself go through it!

@Auntylou True! I've had some less-than happy servers at a couple of the restaurants, but I guess that's why there is a need for mystery shoppers...lol.

I have a friend who is a mystery shopper. She is located in a region where she can do this having many of the shops nearby that she needs to visit. She said she is able to earn a little money in doing so, but it is not enough to say so.

I make a couple of hundred dollars in fees per month mystery shopping. On top of that I get reimbursed for some groceries, gas, and meals and this month an oil change. A list of reputable companies is available at the MSPA - Mystery Shopper Provider's Association. Also at the mystery shop forum Many do pay if you refer someone in an area where they need someone. I would only refer someone I know personally so I know they are serious and would do a good job. You don't need a referral to sign up anyway. Like Yuki, I never pay for oil changes well I do pay for them by making the observations and filling out the reports. The companies that I know do oil changes are Bestmark, Intellishop, and Wecheckservices. I am not permitted to say who their clients are. I am signed up with over 100 companies so I can find which company does each business in my area. In January I did work for 7 of those companies. Other months I work for even more of them.
