Nasty Blister on My Son's Finger!

A few days ago I noticed that my son had a small blister on his right ring finger but I thought you know eventually it would go away. Maybe I should have put something on it because i looked at it today and it is looking pretty nasty now. My mother in law said maybe he got burned or something but I don't remember seeing him get burned this week at all. I don't think a cut could give him a blister could it? I'll show a picture of it here.
Anyone have any idea what could have done this and what I should do about it? I think we are going to try and pop it and clean it then put some neosporin on it.

no it doesnt seem to hurt him. He's had a few on his fingers before and they have all like popped on their own with time. The flash was on which kinda changed the way it looks. in regular lighting it isnt as red looking though if this doesnt get better soon the doctor will be seen
