Email Purge

A few weeks ago I noticed my inbox had 7,777 unopened emails in it. It was email I would never read at this point, and it was time for it to go. So I started going back through and clearing out the email as I went from time to time. I certainly don't want to purge recklessly and delete things that serve as records. Still, it's nice to see the unopened numbers dropping.
Today was one of the purge days and I'm under 4,000 now, and the number continues to shrink. Along the way I have started feeling better because it's a lot of job alerts and career postings that only served to drag me down over the years. I know I won't be working for someone else at this point. I just never got along with others enough to be the peon.
It's nice to burn some bridges I don't want to go back across.

I need to unsubscribe as well. Too bad I can't unsubscribe from the world of telemarketers as easily!

@OneOfMany I also use a product called SaneBox to keep my inbox uncluttered.

It's a good practice, it's just that I don't get to clearing clutter as often as I should. Looking around my place it's clear that entropy is very present.

@pgiblett Gmail does a pretty good job at keeping spam out, but there are so many messages that end up coming in from other sources.

@Marcyaz Why would my account be closed? I was barely taking up any storage space that I was allotted.

Thank you. It took years to accumulate into that pile. It's nice that they are gone. At least in my gmail. I don't even want to look at what's in my hotmail...

I need to clear my email also! I have 7,397 currently (as my email is open)! Most is junk mail that I am too lazy to delete.

Fortunately my junk mail is siphoned off to the side, but I have managed to clear out my old messages. It feels good getting rid of the clutter!

I added some filters, I have one thats junk that I just quickly scan now and then and mass delete things, that helps

If there is a theme for email type, I will search for them and then select page after page and delete. Fortunately I am managing the quantities day by day now.

How long do those emails go back. It makes me wonder if it's worth responding to your post. Hmmm.

Almost 7 years. I saw a lot of history of my life in that time frame too.

@OneOfMany I delete messages daily. This keeps the numbers in check.

@Morleyhunt It's what I'm going to do from now on. I just got in the habit of ignoring them.

I would get overwhelmed and just avoid them. After a while I wanted them out of my box so I don't have to look at them anymore.

Yes and the fact that this is built up over 8 years. I have no unread emails now. I just went after it and finished the purge.
