I do not know how this is useful and suitable to western countries but it is very unfortunate with reference to India that the number of Old age Homes on the increase. The number has trebled in the last three years as per the report of 2012. The changing family structures and the attitude of the younger generation had led to this sharp rise. The Help Age India and Anand Ashrams doing their lot to improve and protect the old and aged people. At the same time, many Old Age Homes are coming into existence charging various monthly payments ranging from 700- Rs.9000/- depending upon the facilities they provide.I am not going to talk about as to how many are financial sound to meet the expenditure and how many or not I want to place the following for the very said state of affairs. In every Indian family, it is the son/sons who take care of his parents in their old age which they are totally neglecting. The total disappearance of joint family system The modern education system which is not teaching which is not value based but money based. Not including stories of great people like swami Vivekananda, Chhatrapati Shivaji, Lord Hanuman, Sravan, etc., and speeches and teaching of great people. Though in some states they are there, there are no efficient teachers to teach them. Independence. In the name of independence parents who themselves are not properly trained, educated are leaving their children to their wishes in the name of freedom. Of course, it should be confined to their further study of the subject of interest. Not the further study of the subject 'how to leave ethics'. Parents who are middle-income people are just copying others who are properly educated and taking wrong steps. They are copying the persons who are well settled and thorough understanding of life. They know where to be freed and where not to. They are allowing their children what to study next after a thorough observation. They also take care how the children should be allowed to wear which dress and where to wear which dress. They take Children along with them and show them the different type of people and different type of social circles. It is here they give basic foundation. But, this is not being the case with middle-income groups. They blindly follow the former group and are leaving them freely in the name of modern culture, society without any basic foundation. Hope this situation would change soon. One should always remember 'This is not how much you are earning or earned but it is how you are living and lived. '. Of course, money has little role to play in a society built on ethical values and foundation. In nut-shall it is acting as defective Color Therapy

How sad that some of the children are not taking care of their aging parents. It happens in every society from what I understand.

I do not think it happens in U.S. Their way of looking at things is different. They do not depend on their children. The peculiarity of India is that the parents sacrifice their wants and desire and most of their life in bringing thier children up. The same children after getting some good standing do not feel any responsibility towards their aged parents. Another peculiarity of the Indian society is that just for the sake of a son a lady prepares to give birth to as many female babies as she can. This is the funniest things. The parents bring them up and allow them onto the road to earn. They even do not perform their marriages. Whatever the daughter earns they eat away. If by change any daughter gets married they allow her just for short period. Later slowly they poison her mind, cajole her by telling against her husband and separate them. They encourage her in the name of freedom, independence, women's right and other liberally available words. Their modus operandi is they invest some petty amount as capital and purchase a house with her earnings and the entire family (excluding married son) along with unmarried daughters stay in her house. At the same time they allow their sons to lead a family life independently. The married daughters are transfixed financially and socially. No women organizations question the audacity of such fathers . This is another vicious culture that is creeping up like a slow poison in the Indian Society......especially in Brahmin Community. The dirty father sleep with his wife every night but does not care about the daughters who are ready for the marriage and the injustice he is doing/ done to his married daughter. The married daughter now separated from her husband are not viewing the situation from this angle. For these fathers, life is a heaven on earth. They do not require any OLD AGE HOMES.
