This game never really had a name but as it was played at a judo-martial arts club I attended in the 1970’s I thought I’d give it a suitable kung fu title.
The game took part after the judo training sessions as a kind of closing entertainment. Everyone attending was split into one of two teams and positioned to the left side or right side of the dojo – fighting mats area. One person was selected as a victim and placed lying down between the opposing armies who would then try to drag him or her to their side of the mats. This left the poor wretch being stretched limb for limb between the sides. The victim would be laid down, sideways on to the faces of the opponents rather than stretched out like a tug of war rope.
It was often very painful and I probably gained several inches in arm and leg length from the occasions I was used as the victim. I suspect such amusements would now be outlawed.
