Day 4 – Prove It Ezra 5 As children we often heard the taunt – Prove It. As we progressed from childhood into adulthood and entered the work force, again we heard – Prove It. Someone always wanted proof that we could do what we claimed we could. It’s easy to provide a piece of paper showing we graduated from such and such course, but the paper can’t prove we can do the work, only we can do that. Opposition is still coming at the Jews as they continue to build the temple of God. Those opposing the work demanded who told them they could continue. They wanted proof of the matter so they could send the proof to the king in Persia. I’m certain they were surprised it wasn’t one of their own, but Cyrus, king of Persia who granted them leave to go to their homeland and build the temple, and gave them all the vessels of the temple taken to Babylon at the time of the captivity. Another letter was sent to Darius, king of Persia to search the king’s treasure house for proof that Cyrus made such a decree to the Jews to build the house of God. As Christians we come against opposition as well, always wanting proof that we are who we say we are: proof that we are the temple of the living God, and the Holy Spirit lives in us. Satan does all he can to shatter our lives and make us believe our salvation isn’t real, that we are still wallowing in our sin. Yet, when the Spirit of God lives in us, there is nothing Satan can do to stop God’s work in our lives. Satan only comes after those who display the work of God in their lives. He doesn’t bother with those Christians who are no threat to him because they live in the world only claiming they are Christians. They have a form of godliness but no power. The Jews continued to work on the temple. As a result, those who wanted to see the work stopped demanded to know where their authority came from and doing all they could to stop the building of the temple. It’s up to you to follow all God’s instructions for your lives. When you do, you will find much opposition, but don’t be afraid to continue doing what God told you to do. You will see God finish the work in your lives. Philippians 1:5 For your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now; 6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ: (KJV) God gave you the work to do, and He will see it accomplished. God was in the building of the temple in Jerusalem, and He saw to it the work continued uninterrupted, despite the opposition to their work. Isn’t it time you stopped worrying about what others thought about what you are doing for the cause of Christ and allowed God to work it out just as He did for the Jews when they were opposed? Your proof is in the fact God continues to work in you. That’s all the proof you need to keep on keeping on. Let’s pray: Father, thank you that You began a good work in me. Help me to not listen to any opposition Satan brings my way, but help me continue with Your work until Jesus comes again. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
