Do You Believe Spirit of Dead People Can Come Back To Earth To Haunt the Living?

I have a friend whose mother in law has such a great fear for ghosts so that she can't be left alone at home lest she'd die of heart attack. She always imagines that the spirits of her dead parents and dead husband could appear before her and that scares her to the hilt.
I don’t believe spirits of dead ones can ever come back to earth to haunt the living. This is why being home alone even during the night is not a problem to me. However, I believe in bad (demonic) spirits that can confuse and deceive people but I don't fear them either because greater is my God that is in me than those demons.
How about you? Do you believe dead persons can come back to earth to scare you? Why?

I believe in sprit, because some years ago I face two incident that surely of sprits. But, And from then the fear of sprit had gone from my mind.

I think that ghosts do live and haunt others but most ghosts mean no harm.

i think its the matter of culture in which i born. even in our country , people believes in such things. I must say that there is no ghost in this world. But there is negative energy and researches show that negative energy has some kind of small shapes!

@rahulvsmokiee Thanks, I am not familiar with that teaching but my belief is only limited to what is written in the Word of God. I don't believe in the power of positive or negative energy, only in the power of God who is in control of everything in this world.

I do not believe in that as well, but I just wonder why would our friend's mother-in-law be so worrying about. If it's the spirits of the family, then she wouldn't need to be worry at all, as they will surely protect her instead of hurting her, if she believes in ghosts.
I have friends who told me they can see the spirits, but they are not afraid of them, as they believe the spirits have no harm on us. I think I'll be worrying about humans (bad people) more than ghosts.

@salonga I think she was fine as long as she was not alone in the house, she didn't really have big fight with my late grandfather, they just didn't really talk to each other. What I wanted to say is, sometimes we really don't know what and how others think.

Honestly, I don't believe they come to haunt this world. I think there is some type of other reality that we can access once we die in this reality. There must be times when they can access our side or the two realities just cross over, thus the sighting of ghosts.

But why would our loved ones want to scare us? They wouldn't so while I think me may be able to feel them, they are living not scary.

They either go to Heaven, or Hell or stay in his world in a different realm of space most people called the "purgatory" I don't want to be in that situation were i get to die and get stuck here while my family and friends die one by one. Hell, I don't want to go there either! If you have done something wrong or a crime to that person, there's a possiblity they might come to haunt you with HATE. in the end, only our soul remains, it will be tormented one if hate remains in the soul, but usually they just go to hell for it. @salonga

@Letranknight2015 No I mean the purgatory doctrine, it is created by the Catholic, but those demons in disguise is very biblical and I believe that.

@salonga those who come back to haunt are probably demons in disguise. it could be aliens though but you never know. even if it's very catholic, there's evidence that's been there for years.

Jill, it doesn't take seeing a ghost to believe in the afterlife, but rather believing in what the Bible teaches.

I believe people come back as ghost, but not to scare you. I do think there is evil spirits aka demons.

I believe they do bur not to harm, maybe to finish unfinished business before they can go to heaven or hell.
