Frustration Part 2

So last night my mother was struggling to operate the DVD player. Tonight she had me walk her through it and still nothing was working. Turns out she was using the old player, which I already explained that it uses the one remote only. The problem it seems is she never tried using the new one to begin with, which is why nothing was working. -sigh- The whole purpose of the new player is to prevent the movie from freezing, which happens all the time on the old player. Seems even after explaining it goes in one ear and out the other.

Maybe what you need to do is take the old player away so she can't use it, along with all the obsolete remotes. Then she will be forced to use only what she's supposed to and eventually she'll get it.

The problem is that the old player is there because the new player can't handle blue ray. They don't buy blue ray any more, but they need the one that can handle what they have.

@OneOfMany Umm - Okay I have a really dumb question - are you ready? If the other player didn't work properly and froze all the time, why didn't they buy another blue-ray player? I know you said they don't buy blue ray any more, but they have blue ray movies so they need a blue ray player. At least that's what I perceive from what you said.

@just4him Because they barely watch those and I bought the vcr/dvd combo for Christmas, but I thought blue ray was included, but it wasn't. So I just shrugged. They can deal with a few freezing with blue ray movies. The main thing is that most of their movies can be watched without interruption.

@Morleyhunt My parents are not that old, just not adept at remotes these days!

@OneOfMany there's your mistake....make sure it is large print. Those of us that are a little older need the larger print.

It is hard to get out of old habits and to learn new things as you age. Be patient, she will pick it up soon

Well they had 8 remotes for different things up until last year. I got them a universal remote because they wanted it. Programmed it and they got confused with it, even though I explain it many times. Then got a different universal because of the complaints, and now they are confused again. I told them many times that it is like having different remotes in one. Press TV for television applications (the screen and input). Press Cable for changing the channels and turning the box on and off. Press DVD for controlling the DVD player up until that time. That sounds really simple... it's unbelievable how mad they get because they press TV and then can't change the channels.

@Auntylou I doubt it. I think she just suffers over-work. The project she's trying to do lately is really stressing her.

What I'm waiting for is for someone to put on the market a robot that can set up and run all the rest of our electronic gadgets for us.

Or a button in a remote that automatically sets up the inputs, the sound settings and the tv modes to properly put it into one mode for the device they want. No more changing inputs and settings, just push for one and get it instantly, and have full control over it.
