With other folks here introducing their cats I thought I would introduce our cat Sid. Back in January of 2009 our first cat Cha-Cha died and since she died in my arms I was devastated. We had had her for twelve years. I lasted until March without seeing or cuddling a furry face. Then we decided to adopt another cat. Now this is something I highly recommend. Don't buy - adopt. Our handsome Sid had been abused for the first three years of his life and then thrown out into the street. Animal rescue workers here in Riga, Latvia were called by passers-by who had seen him crouched on the street, dirty, and hungry. They took him and he was placed with a woman who was willing to take in strays for a short period of time until they find permanent homes.
This is where we came in. They placed pictures and short descriptions of each cat or dog available. There was Sid and I fell in love with his picture right away. We went to take a look at him and he was this lovely gray color with wide green eyes. He's a long-haired breed with a large, fluffy tail. Of course, he wasn't as glad to see us as we were to see him. I mean he was wondering what his next adventure was going to be like and if we would also abuse him.
Well we finalized the adoption right there and then and were driven home with Sid in a cat carrier. He was so scared and for the first week he discovered our basement and perched atop of a pile of coal in the coal chute. My husband brought food and water down but he barely touched anything. We were wondering what to do when on St. Patrick's Day March 17, 2009 Sid emerged and was ready to be part of the family. To this day I consider him to be part Irish and we celebrate his birthday on this holiday. He is now the Prince of the house and loves to roam about our garden and climb the trees and do all the things that cats especially male cats love to do. At the moment I am writing, watching a video and Sid is lying next to the other PC with his back to me fast asleep in dreamland.

What a lovely story about Sid.
And yes of course he is part Irish.
You were so kind and loving to adopt him.
I truly wish life was stable enough to get a pet here.
