Write Smarter Not Harder

Some write for the thrill of others simply reading their material and commenting and knowing they mean something to someone. While others, like myself, write for a living so that we can enjoy both the euphoric sensation of an appreciated article and the satisfaction of knowing people are willing to pay for it. Although writing for a living may not be for everyone, it's definitely something that can be sharpened and with enough practice turned into a business that allows you to work but have fun at the same time Everyone knows about starting a free blog and sharpening your skills until you can entice advertisers to pay for a spot or get a guest blog spot. What a lot of people fail to understand starting out is you have to leverage your readers from day one. Great, well how do I do that? (I am going to assume you know how to start a blog and get the basic principles of writing with gusto. If you are completely new to blogging then the easiest way to get started is to make a Facebook page about your hobby you're writing about and just start posting your thoughts there.) Once you have a place of your own to write from and a schedule (stick to the schedule) that you will begin posting to, you are now ready to start leveraging your audience. The best way to do this is through email marketing – the bread and butter of any online business. Imagine for a moment that your business had a physical store from whist it operated from and customers were coming and going to admire your things but never returning because we quickly get distracted with life and forget about your business. Well, what if those customers that really liked you could give you their email address so that you could contact them every so often about your business and its promotions? Doing this helps because you are getting your writing in front of customers that would otherwise not have seen it and that means you are maxing out your profits, should you start selling books or memberships. (not to mention if you have adsense on your website to help monetize) How you get this accomplished is by offering great content on your site and having a wonderful email marketing system that has the software to edit your emails and automate the process. The trick is to make sure you research the different email marketing systems that are right for you or ask someone that can give you their recommendations. The best part about all of this is that if you should ever need to make extra money from your email list, other people that are in the same genre will ask you to send out sponsored emails to your list to get them interested in their products. You get to charge whatever you want for this service and is a nice way to pay emergency bills or fund a project. Bottom line: get set up and get a email marketing system that works for you so you can start making money from the work your most passionate about. This connects you to your audience and makes your site more important to them because you are offering content they care about, thus making them more likely to buy from you in the future. I can honestly say that I didn't do this starting out and sorely wish I had know this is where the magic happens when you start a business/blog online because now I have repeat customers that would gladly buy quality content from me.
