Reminiscing Our “Broke College Students Meals”

When you are in college, especially when you do not have a job and has to rely on your allowance from your parents, then being broke is not new. My parents would not let me find a part time job, even a summer job, because according to them, they will not give me any reason to fail college or an excuse not to finish it. They will work hard to send me to college with one shot to finish it and then they will be done helping me. So me and my similarly situated classmates back then would pool whatever loose change that we can manage to salvage out of our allowances to either have a good time, or work on a project. More often than not, we end up using everything for school projects. But there will come a time that we want to go out and have fun and the urge is so strong. Times like these, we scrimp on our food and although it is not advisable, broke college students barely out of their teens are not really good in prioritizing things in life. We have to be created in our food. Mostly, we have canned tuna, saltines, eggs, ramen noodles, canned soup, dried fish, rice and hotdogs. We eat everything with rice, and we can only eat them one at a time. So we never had rice with hotdogs and eggs. It is either rice with eggs, or rice with hotdogs. But after months of just eating the same stuff over and over again, you feel sick if it. And so we became creative. We made tuna patties by combining saltines and canned tuna. We made stewed hotdogs with tomato sauce. We made ramen noodles with dropped eggs. Not exactly nutritious but it made us full. We were young and stupid, but we had fun.

It sounds like you had fun. I had to have a job and pay for everything myself so I looked for cheap meals too. I don't really remember what we had. We hadn't heard of Raman noodles at that time. Any way my job was at KFC and I could have a meal at my break so that helped.

It was fun. I even miss it now that I am thinking about it.
