Mudras in simple terminology mean 'seal'. Sealing of what? This will be an immediate question for which the answer needs different interpretations. Sadhus and Yogis call it 'a path to divinity', and 'Bliss', For Doctors having some knowledge of yoga it is a way of curing diseases, a method to gain health and way of keeping good health. How can it be a tool for all this? How can this be a solution to all problems? It is only a physicist who can give a proper interpretation if one is capable of establishing a relationship between physics and philosophy (or by whatever name one may call it). Our whole body is a good conductor as well as a bad conductor of heat and electricity as well. The five fingers of our hand (each hand) are associated with each element viz., Water, Earth, Space, Fire, & Air. Strictly speaking, the human body is a combination of these 5 elements. A healthy body will have the proper balance among these 5 elements. This balance of 5 elements varies from body to body. It will never have a constant value like that given by G = 9.8 m/Sec square. Therefore, it becomes imperative to know the Mudra suitable for a particular body. Just by reading the books and learning some mudras will not help anybody and if one attempts to do it, he may face the negative effect of it instead of a benefit. What happens in Mudra is we connect the remaining four fingers with the thumb. The thumb is vital and it represents the element Earth. When this is joined to other fingers (each) it will produce energy that is associated and necessary for a particular organ in the body. There are various Mudras like 1. OM Mudra 2. Surya Mudra 3. Vayu Mudra 4. Varun Mudra 5. Jala Mudra 6. Prithvi Mudra Each Mudra has to be performed with a prescribed and established posture for a particular purpose. I do not want to go into the details as there are many who in their eagerness practice it without knowing the suitability. Reiki is based on the foundations of these Mudras only. These are also the foundations for Color Therapy.

Its great to learn about other culture and traditions. Others practice yoga just as a form of exercise perhaps not knowing that there is also a healing aspect to it.

Thanks. This is actually a healing practice only.. This is done and should be done for a brief amount of 2 or 3 minutes only just to be in line with the practice. When when suffers from any problem and needs ailment then only it should be taken as a remedial measure. A person in whom all the five elements are in perfect balance and adopts this Mudras as an exercise will bring unnecessary imbalance among the 5 elements and will sure to purchase a problem, I hope you got it.
