January the 27th was the very day that Thomas Edison received a patent for his electric incandescent lamp in 1880. Before that time, we can only imagine what it was like to live without electric lights. I actually remember living in a house with no electricity. We had kerosene lamps. I was five years old when we moved from that house into another house that had electricity, but I definitely remember the kerosene lamps.
I didn't know that the opera composer Giuseppe Verdi lived into the 20th century. He died at the age of 87 in Milan, Italy on this very day, January 27th in 1901.
It was January 27th, 1945, when Soviet soldiers liberated the Nazi concentration camps, Auschwitz and Birkenau in Poland.
January 27th was the very day that astronauts, Virgil I. "Gus" Grissom, Edward H. White and Roger B. Chaffee died in a flash fire during a test aboard their Apollo 1 spacecraft at Cape Kennedy, Florida.
January the 27th was also the very day that the Vietnam peace accords were signed in Paris, France.
Mikhail Baryshnikov was born on January 27th, along with Mimi Rogers, Bridget Fonda, Tracy Lawrence and many others.
What else happened on this day?

France was highly involved in the Vietnam war. Most Vietnamese speak French. I know my nail technician does.

History, to me, is fascinating. In addition to that, these little tidbits of information come up in TRIVIA games all the time, so I'm always trying to add to my store of knowledge.

Some things went thru my mind reading this, would the world had been cleaner if Nikola Tesla won over Edison in the battle of currents? Was the Vietnam peace accord just a way for a graceful exit from a very unpopular war and paved the way for the fall of Saigon? sorry just asking thoughts that had been going on in my mind for a long time.

@IreneVincent You put so much thought and consideration in every post you write. They are very well written articles. I am liking them at least those written on topics of my interest.
Now about this post. History has me fascinated too. There is so much to learn about. I tend to incline more towards the cultural, adventurous, mythological, mysterious parts in history.
You asked what else happened on January 27 so I am sharing some Indian historical events that took place on this date.
P. S. You owe me a poetry of yours.
