Every January, I try to see at least few of the movies with Academy Award nominations. I decided to see "The Danish Girl" as it was nominated a few times-- Eddie Redmayne for Best Actor and Alicia Vikander for Best Supporting Actress. It also received nominations for Best Production Design and Best Costume Design. The Danish Girl is a story about the gender-identity struggle of a young painter in 1920s Denmark. It is as much, if not more, a story about his wife's struggle as she discovers and tries to come to terms with the truth. This is a sensitive and moving story with some of the best acting performances I have seen. This is a visually beautiful movie with wonderful period costumes and set design. It is emotionally rich and knowing that it is based on a true story, I found myself wanting to know more about the real-life characters. Have you seen this movie?

It's not playing in many areas because it's about a controversial topic-- transgender issues. Even in the theater I went to that is just outside a major city, it was only shown once a day and the theater was not that full.
