Red Panda

The Red Panda, (Red bear-cat, red cat-bear, firefox, lesser panda) was one of my favorite to see while visiting the Zoo. This panda can grow up to a house cat, or averagely 12-20 lbs. However, the one I saw looks to be bigger than your usual house cat! The red pandas use their bushy and warm tail to wrap themselves since they originally live in cold mountain climates of Nepal or central China. Fun Facts about the Red Panda - In Chinese, the Red Panda is “hun-ho” which is translated to “fire fox" - Nearly half of the red panda’s total body is it’s tail! - There was a study shown that a female red panda ate about 20,000 bamboo leaves in just one day! - Red pandas have strong molars to chew on bamboo and even though these animals are considered carnivores many are vegetarians or herbivorous carnivoran. - Red Pandas have a false thumb like the Giant panda but the false them is actually an extended wrist bone. - Sadly, Red Pandas are endangered because their forest habitat is being destroyed. (Photo Credit) Belongs to me!

I hope so too since their environment is being destroyed. They're a beautiful animal!
