Reflections on the Paranormal

Many people today dismiss stories of the paranormal as belonging to another and more superstitious age, but is it possible that we are missing something as we become more and more materialistic in our thinking? Even if we’ve had nothing in our own experience that remotely suggests such a thing, one doesn’t have to look far among friends and relatives to find someone who has had an experience that can’t be explained by the five senses. Are there perhaps energies around us that come from another realm? Some have called them guardian angels, others spirit guides, but most of us have at some time heard it said, “I guess someone was watching over me”. The story is told of a three year old girl who somehow got separated from her family while on an outing, and spent the night alone in a wooded area. When found the following day, she appeared fine, not at all frightened, and despite a drenching rain during the night, her clothes were not wet. The girl explained that she had been picking flowers in the woods when she met some little people who asked what she was doing alone in the woods. They then took her to their home where she was given food and a place to sleep. In the morning they had accompanied her out of the woods until they could hear the searchers calling her name. She was then told that her parents were waiting and that she must go home. With that the little people disappeared into the forest. As she grew older the child lost all memory of the experience and knew the story only as told by her parents and other family members. I remembered this recently while reading an article about guardian angels. It suddenly occurred to me that if there were such identities, and if they wanted to help a small and lost child, would not this be the best way of doing so? The child was young enough to be taken up in the fantasy and may not be as scared of them as she would of a strange adult. Is it possible than that the story as told by the child was true? Could it be that such energies exist and may appear in any form or even as a thought? Perhaps someday we may have answers to such questions but for the moment, it seems that we can do little but muse upon such possibilities.

It's a lovely story, but I doubt that there's any truth in it. Sorry, I'm a realist.

Thanks Jabo and isn't it great that we are able to think for ourselves? Blessings.

I do not deny this. There definitely are things that are unexplained. A month old baby survives a plane crash and another gets found floating on something in the deep seas. So definitely, there are energies, or whatever they may call them.
