Hugged at the grocery store... again

Time was, I hated hugs, and I'd shy away from all of them. At this point, after a lot of work, I'm fine with them. I've said I live in a friendly town but this is proof.
Yesterday I was out shopping and waiting at the deli counter. A store employee came up, and said a bit tiredly, "Oh, you were first." I told her how I knew it was tough to buy food and have time to eat it if she was on lunch, so she could go first. We talked a bit, and she thanked me... then hugged me! I gave her a big grin.
When I checked out with my groceries, she was my bagger, and she said to take care, and hugged me again. It's funny how we can make friends in the oddest places.
Sometimes I think this place is the huggin'est, door holdin'est place in the world.

Huh... I've never thought that about Arizona, honestly. The people I met when I was living in Kansas for several months were all a lot friendlier than I was used to from living out here.
Guess I just might be in the wrong part of the state...

@Rohvannyn Phoenix never was, in my experience. It's been years since I lived in the area, though I can't imagine it's changed much. People always seemed to be standoffish to me.

Tucson's kind of a special place. I don't know if Phoenix, for example, would be like this. But people are pretty friendly - at least certain cultural groups. The Snowbirds aren't like that.

I am not much of a hugger. I hate hugs from strangers especially, then friends/family, it's alright but don't hug me too often.

At the same time, I've noticed that people don't offer where it's not welcome - so it's a nice balance.

@Rohvannyn That is considerate to notice when someone isn't up for a hug.

I used to feel awkward and often shy away from hugs.... Now I find them tolerable but still don't initiate one ever.... Still not a fan of it..
