Violin Prices

So I was checking for violin prices earlier and I found a Mozart Violin worth Php 7,200 in my local currency (USD 160) at the mall. Then I went to the market and found a store that sold the same violin but with cheaper price of Php 2,600 (USD 57.78). I'm worried that the latter might be an imitation and I'm neither a violinist nor anything close to a luthier so I want to ask: should I buy the latter, cheaper one or should I play it safe and buy the more expensive one?

Thanks. But I guess this one is going to get difficult. You see, I don't know anyone who can play the violin and I am just planning to learn how to play it. Perhaps I could ask the seller instead? The one at the mall is a sure one, the guy even knows how to play it. I don't know about the one at the market though.

I wish I did. I was just too shy to do it. Haha

@Tierkreisze why? just asking the price and the authenticity is not a shy thing? especially if you really want to buy it

Price is never a guarantee of quality and both sound pretty cheap to me. I can't imagine someone would go to the trouble to fake a violin worth $160. If you want to feel more sure, go to the first shop and ask them how you can know it's a genuine one. Then go and check the less expensive one very carefully and if it looks OK, grab the bargain.

@Tierkreisze That's my point. Ask the first store how you can spot a fake versus a real one. It's like buying designer clothes. If you go to a store and ask them, they'll tell you what signs there would be - inside tags, labels etc - that would identify a real one.

@boiboing Ohh... Thanks a lot! I didn't know that.. I'll do that when I get back there again. Thanks again!
And I sure hope the seller knows that. The first shop is purely a music store filled with guitars, violins, pianos, jacks, amplifiers, etc. The second one just sells stuff. But mostly sports equipment and some musical instruments.

Okay I'll try that. But I think I'll need help with that one because I don't know the difference between a genuine and fake one. I just want a violin I can use so I can learn how to play. But I'm afraid that a fake one might hinder my progress, so I want to have a genuine one. Anyway, thank you.

I wasn't able to buy the cheaper one. Then the one in the mall got sold and all they have now are the more expensive ones with jacks. So I thought, maybe I could just wait till I graduate and get a job, and then buy a violin.
