Day 5 – Be Ready Nehemiah 4 We’ve all heard the saying: fight for what you believe. In order to fight for what we believe, we need to prepare so we are ready for whatever comes against us. As Christians we also need to prepare for battle. Jesus told Peter Satan sought to sift him as wheat. Luke 22:31 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: (KJV) Peter knowing Satan had done exactly as Jesus told him, advised us also to be watchful. 1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour: (KJV) Nehemiah and the people of Judah were building the wall. Everything was coming along great. However, they had opposition from Sanballat, Tobiah, and Gesham, mocking them and telling them the wall would not stand up to the smallest of animals. Therefore Nehemiah prepared the people to be ready in the event war came on them suddenly. Half the men built the wall, and the other half defended them with sword and spear. Those who built also carried weapons, so they worked and held their weapons ready for whatever their enemies plotted against them. As Christians our preparation is found in the armor of the Holy Spirit we put on daily so we can stand against anything Satan would throw at us. Ephesians 6:13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; 15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: 18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; (KJV) When we put on the armor of God there is nothing Satan can do to us. We are prepared for everything when we stand ready for battle. Let’s pray: Father, help me to stand ready for battle, prepared for anything Satan would use to come against me. Let my sword be ready, and my feet prepared. Let my armor be fully in place as I stand ready for battle. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
