How much do you trust the police?

I am interested in writing this topic just because of all of the current events going on around the United States with police brutality, police-involved shootings, and also the overall mistrust it seems the public has in police. Although Ferguson is far from my state of Minnesota, these attitudes reflect here - and probably all around. I am kind of on the fence. I do believe there are "crooked" cops out there, or cops that do not tell the truth, perhaps do their job with discrimination in mind. I don't doubt that, although I like to think that in general, Minnesota police are here to "protect and serve"....Maybe this is my naivity. I haven't had much bad experience with police, however, but I can see how one experience would change things. I'm not trying to dig too deep in arguing about who is at fault for what,, but I am just curious: Where do you live? Do you generally trust police? What is the general "consensus" about police?
