Telling friends about your online earning

Someone was shocked when I told them that they could earn a little bit of money online. It’s one of my friends that I don’t see very often, and we were talking about paid focus groups. I recently did one that resulted in a $100 gift card for Amazon, and she did one several years back about shopping and got $200 and some dollars in cash. These opportunities don’t’ come by often it seems. But! Then she asked me how I got put into this focus group that just recently paid me, and it was through a survey site – so I had to explain the whole ordeal. She was super shocked that anyone could earn online; even more shocked when I told her I made $70 on the website last month (January). (Imagine her reaction if I earned way more than that!) Some people seem to react with skepticism, others with disbelief. Have you ever told a friend about your online earnings? What were his/her reaction?

The only people I have told were not impressed with these amounts of money.

@paigea yes. And I can understand where those people are coming from for sure. I kind of enjoy it in a weird way...

@maezee The people I know who work don't think it's worth the effort for a little extra and the people I know who don't work think the same I guess.

I keep it to mysefl, as I just have my family, and if I told them, they would think I was crazy. They are like a lot of people that don't believe you can make anything online, as they have real jobs, and don't use the internet to earn money. I have tried to tell others, but they don't think it is possible either. It is just to hard to convince others that there are legitimate sites out there to earn money from. Oh well, it is their loss.

I agree with you there, I keep these things to myself also. I only share with people who are unemployed, and need a little spending cash - not the folks I know that work day-in day-out and do good at that.

@maezee I am retired, but I still don't need to know what others are earning, as it isn't my business. The ones that ask, I think are more curious than anything, but they still don't need to ask. Now, if someone wants to volunteer the information, that is one thing, but no one should ask.

No one was skeptical, they were surprised to learn about online content, in general. But my family has given advise about travel descriptions, designer handbags and perfume products. They are my Research Team sometimes.
